Autologous conditioned plasma (ACP) is used in a facial treatment used to treat wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging. This serum contains growth factors and other nutrients that can help improve the skin’s appearance. An ACP Facial is safe and has few side effects. The treatment is among the over 13 million cosmetic minimally-invasive procedures doctors performed in 2020, and the popularity continues to climb!

What Does ACP Mean?
ACP (Autologous Conditioned Plasma) comes from your own blood and contains high concentrations of platelets and growth factors that help your tissue heal and grow new cells. ACP is obtained by drawing a small amount of blood from your arm into a sterile tube. The tube is centrifuged to separate your platelets and plasma, the portion of the blood that we use for the treatment, from your red and white blood cells. Since ACP is derived from your own blood, there is no risk of allergic reaction or other side effects.
When ACP is used with microneedling, it is able to penetrate deep into your skin through the tiny channels created by the microneedles. As a result, the ACP supercharges the microneedling benefits. ACP also addresses under-eye puffiness and dark circles to give you a more youthful, well-rested appearance.
What Are Growth Factors?
Growth factors are vital signaling proteins that help your skin cells communicate with each other. They have a critical role in the healing process and help stimulate new cells’ growth. ACP has high concentrations of growth factors.
When growth factors are applied beneath the skin, they stimulate the production of new, healthy cells to improve the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging. They can also help to improve the appearance of acne scars and other skin conditions.
More About Microneedling
Microneedling, also called percutaneous collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive method used to improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and other skin conditions. As the tiny needles puncture the skin, they create micro-wounds. These wounds trigger the body’s natural healing response, which produces new collagen, elastin, and vascularization. The new collagen and elastin help to improve the appearance of the skin. Vascularization brings new blood vessels to the area, which helps improve the skin’s health.
Collagen and elastin are two vital proteins found in the skin. Collagen is the framework that keeps skin firm, while elastin gives the skin its snap-back ability. Unfortunately, as we age, our bodies produce less of these proteins, which leads to wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging.
Microneedling can be used on the face, neck, chest, hands, and other areas of the body. Microneedling causes less epidermal damage than laser ablation, resulting in less epidermal injury. Microneedling also has a decreased risk of hyperpigmentation and scarring, making it a great option for individuals with thin, sensitive, or darker skin types.
What are the Benefits of ACP Facial?
Doctors first reported the benefits of autologous platelet concentrates and their ability to help skin heal in 1986. Since then ACP has been used in a large variety of medical applications, and it’s now a popular treatment in aesthetics and wellness. The main advantage of ACP is not only that it can help improve the skin’s appearance, but that it helps restore the structure and health of the skin. ACP is often used to treat wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging. It can also be used to diminish the appearance of acne scars and improve other skin conditions. The treatment is safe and has few side effects.
With microneedling alone, clinical trials showed that almost 95% of subjects noted a reduction in scar severity by 1 or 2 grades, and most assessed their treatment as “excellent” on a 10-point scale. This same study found that microneedling improved the appearance of wrinkles by up to 90% after two treatments. Add the benefits of ACP to microneedling, and you have a potent combination!
Candidates For Treatment
Ideal candidates have:
- Mild to moderate wrinkles or fine lines
- Mild to moderate acne scars
- Uneven skin texture or tone
Microneedling is not recommended for patients with active acne, rosacea, or eczema. The treatment is also not recommended for patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding. In addition, patients with a history of keloids should not receive this treatment.

Preparation for Treatment
- You should avoid any blood-thinning medicines like ibuprofen, aspirin, or St. John’s Wort for at least a week before your treatment. These medicines can increase the risk of bruising and bleeding.
- You should also avoid sun exposure for at least a week before your treatment. Sun exposure can make the skin more sensitive and increase the risk of side effects.
- On the day of your treatment, you should arrive with clean skin free from beauty products or makeup.
You will receive a full breakdown of preparing for any treatment at Dr. Mylissa’s Medical Boutique.
How Does ACP Facial Work?
Before your treatment begins, we will draw a small amount of blood from your arm to treat in the centrifuge. Your aesthetician will apply a numbing cream to your skin to minimize discomfort during the procedure. Microneedling is a quick and easy procedure that can be done in the comfort of our office. The treatment usually takes between 30 minutes and 1 hour, depending on the areas being treated.
We will use a device with small needles to create tiny punctures in the top layer of your skin.
As the needles pierce the skin, they create tiny channels. These channels will help the regenerative properties in the ACP penetrate deep into the skin. Next, the ACP serum is applied to the treatment area to be absorbed.
Recovery from an ACP Facial
After microneedling with ACP, you may experience some redness and swelling. These side effects are temporary and should resolve within a few days. You can use ice to help reduce any discomfort.
Dr. Mylissa will provide specific instructions on how to care for your skin after the treatment. It is essential you follow these instructions carefully to ensure the best possible results.
- You should avoid sun exposure and wear sunscreen when you are outdoors. Sun exposure can cause the skin to become irritated and delay the healing process.
- You should also avoid using harsh skincare products or cosmetics for at least a week after the treatment. These products can irritate the skin and cause side effects.
- It is also important to avoid touching or scratching the treated area. This can cause the skin to become infected and delay the healing process.
We are always here to answer your questions, so call if you have any concerns. In general, patients respond incredibly well to microneedling without issue.
What are the Results of Microneedling with ACP?
The results of ACP with microneedling are typically seen within a few weeks as your skin heals and collagen production begins to take effect. However, it may take up to 6 weeks for the full effects of the treatment to be seen.
You will likely need a series of treatments to achieve the desired results. The number of treatments will depend on your goals and the condition of your skin.
Your skin will look and feel years younger, but don’t take our word for it! Just read our glowing patient testimonials.
