About miraDry in South Florida

Excessive sweating is no one’s favorite topic of conversation, but it’s more common than you might think. It’s estimated that over 37 million people in the U.S. suffer through excessive underarm sweating and/or clinical hyperhidrosis.[1] However, with our current technological advances in thermal energy, excessive sweating can be curable. You shouldn’t have to struggle with underarm stains on your favorite shirts or avoid social and leisure activities due to fear of excess sweating. With miraDry, we can help relieve you of that burden.

What Is miraDry?

miraDry is an effective non-surgical treatment for excessive underarm sweating. MiraDry is an FDA-cleared treatment that is first in its class. Results from miraDry are immediate and long-lasting. Clinical studies confirm that miraDry yields an 82% reduction of sweat and an 89% reduction in odor.[2]  It also removes up to 70% of underarm hair due to the thermal energy permanently altering the underarm hair follicles.

miraDry uses thermal energy to eliminate underarm sweat glands. It may surprise you, but these sweat glands in the armpit make up just 2% of the sweat glands in your body. This means miraDry is a safe procedure to reduce excessive sweating. All of our staff have had the treatment and we all love it!

How to Prepare

Before your treatment, we will provide you with a set of instructions. For patients, we advise shaving your armpits 4-5 days in advance of your miraDry appointment. You should wash your armpits every day with recommended soap. Try to wear a tank top to your session but after treatment, avoid wearing sleeveless shirts for at least a week to help your arms’ healing process.

During the Procedure

The miraDry procedure is straightforward. First, we numb the underarm area with local anesthesia. Most patients experience very little discomfort during the procedure. Then, we mark the area with a temporary tattoo to guide our applicator. Finally, we use miraDry’s innovative device to treat the area and eliminate the overactive sweat glands.

How Long Will the Procedure Take?

A treatment session usually lasts around an hour, give or take depending on circumstances.

What Is Recovery Like?

With miraDry, patients can celebrate their sweat-free arms with little to no downtime. Most patients can resume their daily schedule immediately. miraDry counts as a “lunchtime procedure”; patients can return to work or school after their treatment session.

After a few days, you should be able to return to your regular exercise routine. It’s normal to experience minor bruising, swelling, numbness, and sensitivity in the underarm treatment area for a few days after your miraDry session. Plan to use a cold compress or ice pack to reduce the swelling and any discomfort following the procedure. Wear loose clothing for a week to maximize your comfort following the procedure. It’s also advised that you avoid strenuous activities and exercise for about a week to give your body the time it needs to heal.

What Results Can I Expect?

You can expect immediate and long-lasting results. MiraDry uses thermal energy to eliminate sweat and odor glands. These sweat glands are permanently gone. Clinical studies have shown that on average, patients experience an 82% reduction in sweat and an 89% reduction in odor. miraDry also results in the removal of up to 70% of underarm hair due to the thermal energy melting the hair follicles. Just like other aesthetic treatments, results may vary from patient to patient. In a 2-year follow-up study, patients report significant improvements across several categories. Treatment allowed patients greater choice in wardrobe, there was a dramatic reduction in the reported feeling of self-consciousness, and patients felt more comfortable going to work and school.[3] Patients also reported feeling less limited in attending social and leisure activities.

How Much Does miraDry Cost in South Florida?

Dr. Mylissa and her team will discuss pricing during your consultation. Depending on your unique situation, the miraDry treatment might be more or less extensive than the average.

FAQ

Do I need all my sweat glands?

Our bodies need sweat glands to cool us off. Fortunately, we have over 2-4 million sweat glands spread across our bodies. Only around 2% of all sweat glands are located in the underarm area. Even if we eliminated every single underarm sweat gland, it would not limit your body’s natural cooling ability.

How many treatment sessions will I need?

After just one treatment, you will feel a difference. However, just like other aesthetic procedures, you should discuss your results with Dr. Mylissa, and together you might determine that more than one treatment will have added benefits

Is miraDry safe?

Yes, over 150,000 patients worldwide have benefited from miraDry’s excellent safety profile. As the first, and currently only, FDA-cleared treatment for hyperhidrosis and excessive sweating, miraDry has gone through clinical studies that firmly establish its benefits and results. If you are looking for a non-surgical solution for excess sweat, miraDry provides a trustworthy treatment. Don’t entrust your health to off-label uses or black-market devices. Put your trust in the only FDA-cleared treatment for underarm sweating.

Are there any side effects?

miraDry has a solid safety record. But, some patients can expect some bruising, swelling, or soreness. These side-effects will usually resolve themselves within a few days on their own. It’s also possible that a few patients experience an alteration in sensation for a few days after a treatment session. This shouldn’t be a concern, but if it persists, please contact Dr. Mylissa’s Medical Boutique for a follow-up examination.

Is miraDry covered by insurance?

At the moment, most insurance does not cover miraDry. However, it might be possible to use your HSA/FSA funds toward sessions with miraDry. Please contact your HSA/FSA manager to learn more about how miraDry is classified within your health care providers.
