What Causes Wrinkles?
When you wink at someone, it’s a carefree expression that you barely think about, but there is a complex system of chemical reactions that brings your wink to life. Your brain tells your muscles to contract, and this action is carried out through an elaborate relay of neurotransmitters. Acetylcholine floods the neural junctions in the target area of your face, triggering the contraction of your fine musculature. Wink achieved!
But our faces experience persistent, involuntary motions every day. Frown lines, pursed lips, and those bothersome “parentheses” lines along the midface are caused by repetitive muscular contractions. By controlling the activity at the neural junctions lining the face, we are able to usher in a smooth, serene appearance to our clients.
What Is Botox?
Botox Cosmetic is a neuromodulator that disrupts the flow of acetylcholine to the muscles. After a brief session with Dr. Mylissa, you will be empowered to make the facial expressions you WANT to make, not the ones that arrive unwelcomely. Botox is a simple, non-surgical, medically-administered treatment that smoothes wrinkles and fine lines. Botox is proven to treat the frown lines between the brows, horizontal forehead lines, and wrinkles around the eyes. The treatment only takes a few minutes. Dr. Mylissa only uses full-strength Botox from Allergan.
Dr. Mylissa Only Uses “Real” Botox
Brand-name Botox Cosmetic is an FDA-approved treatment for fine lines and wrinkles. Dr. Mylissa Graber sells Botox by the unit and she will explain your recommended dosage so that you know exactly what you are getting. The Botox is precisely prepared and injected so that you receive the full strength of the neuromodulator. You can rest assured that at Dr. Mylissa’s, you are receiving only the purest Botox. The doctor administers all injections herself.
Benefits of Botox
Botox can be used in any area you hope to achieve a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. Currently, Botox is FDA-approved for the treatment of the glabellar (frown lines), crow’s feet, and forehead lines. In addition to these FDA-approved areas, some individuals use Botox off-label in the chin for dimpling, the neck for wrinkles, the temples and scalp for migraines, and the masseter muscles for jaw clenching and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain.
Botox can also be injected around the mouth to address smokers’ lines. Dr. Mylissa has also perfected the use of Botox in the upper lip to give the mouth a temporary appearance of fullness. Botox treatment for lip rejuvenation is nicknamed the “lip flip.” In addition, Botox can be used for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) under the arms as well. When you come in, Dr. Mylissa can discuss if any of these off-label uses would be beneficial to you.
Men and women of South Florida are ideal candidates for Botox treatment if they desire smoother, younger skin without the need for invasive surgery. You may not be eligible for neuromodulator injections if you struggle with certain musculoskeletal disorders or ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Dr. Mylissa can determine your candidacy for Botox enhancement during your comprehensive consultation.

The new you awaits!
The Botox injection procedure is so straightforward, you may be deemed ready for your first session immediately following your consultation. In general, you may be advised to stop taking certain blood-thinners to reduce the risk of minor bruising. You should also quit smoking in the weeks leading up to Botox treatment since tobacco products are counterproductive to facial enhancement.
The Botox Procedure
From the moment you arrive at Dr. Mylissa’s Medical Boutique, we want you to feel right at home. Your face will be cleansed and readied for Botox treatment. Dr. Mylissa uses ultrafine needles to ensure the exact placement of the neuromodulator in the precise area(s) of the face you want to enhance. In a matter of minutes, you will receive a boost that lasts months!
There is little to no downtime associated with Botox treatment. In fact, Dr. Mylissa can perform your session during a midday break, which is why we sometimes call it a “lunchtime” procedure. You can resume your normal daily activities immediately following your Botox treatment. You may notice small dots of redness at the site(s) of injection, but these will gradually subside in 3-5 hours. Please do not rub or scratch the affected area; great results are worth the wait!
Botox acclimates to your anatomy over the course of 4-7 days. As the solution adapts to its surroundings, your face will enjoy a sense of calm that allows your natural attractiveness to shine brightly.

While results will vary slightly from one client to the other, most people commonly see results that endure for four months or more. Such factors as the age of the patient, the strength of their muscles, the number of units used, the patient’s metabolism, and their level of activity can all affect the duration of a Botox treatment. Regular follow-up sessions will help address persistent muscular activity in the treated areas and can facilitate longer-lasting results.
Botox is wonderfully effective at isolating the fine muscles responsible for creating and deepening facial wrinkles. But muscular contractions are just one of the causes of fine lines. As we age, our bodies produce less and less collagen, the protein responsible for maintaining healthy skin. Gaps emerge below the surface of your complexion, but dermal fillers can literally fill those gaps (as their name suggests). Juvéderm is formulated with hyaluronic acid, which is naturally occurring in the human body. Hyaluronic acid adds volume to depleted facial features. As an added bonus, hyaluronic acid also cradles moisture by binding with water molecules. Juvéderm recipients enjoy a rush of hydration and renewed production of collagen, enhancing their appearance for 12 months or more!
While Juvéderm and Botox provide transformative results beneath the skin’s surface, you may also want to consider the surface itself. A chemical peel at Dr. Mylissa’s Medical Boutique is a fantastic way to replenish dull, creased skin and restore your complexion.
