What is Botox?

Botox is a simple and nonsurgical, medically administered treatment that smoothes wrinkles and fine lines. Currently Botox is FDA approved to treat the frown lines between the brows, horizontal forehead lines and around the eyes. The treatment only takes a few minutes. Dr Mylissa only uses full strength Botox from Allergan.

Dr. Mylissa only uses “real” Botox.

FDA-approved, brand named Botox is the only FDA approved treatment for the fine lines and wrinkles. Dr. Mylissa sells Botox by the unit, so that you know exactly what you are getting. The Botox is mixed and injected so that you receive the full strength of the toxin. You can rest assured that at Dr. Mylissa’s, you are receiving only the purest Botox with the doctor administering all injections herself.

Where can Botox be used?

Botox can be used in any area you hope to achieve reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. Currently Botox is FDA approved for the glabella (frown lines), crow’s feet and forehead lines. In addition to the FDA approved areas, Botox is commonly used off label in the chin for dimpling, the neck for wrinkles, the temples and scalp for migraines, and the masseter muscles for jaw clenching and TMJ. It an also be used around the mouth for smokers lines, and in the upper lip to give the lips a temporary appearance of fullness without fillers, nicknamed the “lip flip.” In addition, Botox can be used for hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) under the arms as well. When you come in, Dr Mylissa can discuss with you if any of these off label uses would be possible for you.

How long does Botox last?

While results will vary slightly from one to the other, the more commonly seen results last three to four months. Such factors as age of the patient, strength of muscles, number of units used, the patient’s metabolism and level of activity of the patient can all affect the duration of action of the Botox. Regular treatments with Botox will help decrease the strength of the muscles in the treated areas and can lead to Botox lasting longer.
